Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy is a clinical intervention using skilled hands-on techniques to diagnose and treat soft tissue and joints to reduce pain, increase range of motion, decrease myofascial restrictions to improve muscle length, decrease swelling or inflammation, assist the body in muscle or soft tissue repair, extensibility and/or stability, and facilitate movement to improve function.

Manual Therapy includes many techniques such as soft tissue mobilization, scar tissue mobilization, myofascial release and craniosacral therapy are aimed at soft tissue issues.  Other techniques such as joint mobilization, manual traction and muscle energy techniques are primarily intended to improve joint mobility.

Our specially trained Physical Therapists select, prescribe, and implement manual therapy techniques when the examination findings, diagnosis, and prognosis indicate use of these techniques may be helpful to decrease edema, pain, spasm, or swelling; enhance health, wellness, and fitness; enhance or maintain physical performance; increase the ability to move; or prevent or remediate impairment in body functions and structures, activity limitations, or participation restrictions to improve physical function.
